What is a Sound Bath/Therapy? Sound therapy or a sound bath is often done in group settings where participants lay or sit comfortably (think yoga-like) and delve into a quiet, calm personal space. Practitioners play live meditative music and tones with special instruments like crystal singing bowls, gongs and vocals for about 50 minutes. Individual sessions are more focused on client needs.
How can it benefit me? The main point of sound healing therapy is to engage with sound waves in any degree of receptivity from simple relaxation to advanced spiritual practices.
Sound waves in western medicine most often gather information from the stethoscope to ultrasounds, EKG, EEG and much more. The application of sound waves as therapy illuminates their role in identifying and dispersing stress which is compressed energy and can promote wellness by reducing heightened body states such as blood pressure, anxiety and pain relief.

Jane Francis
BM, BME, BS in Geology
Jane Francis is a musician (jazz, classical and pop bassist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, music educator and sound healer) who played extensively in the NC Triangle area from 2001-2017. Francis studied Hindustani classical voice with Madhumita Sen-Saha from 2004-2006. In 2016, she earned degrees in Jazz Studies and Music Education at NCCU where she received instruction from Dr. Ira Wiggins and Branford Marsalis. In 2011, began to study toning as a sound healing modality in Asheville, NC. During that time she and her husband musician Jay Manley, operated a recording/teaching studio in Chapel Hill, NC. Manley often joins the sound healing sessions on his 21-stringed Saraswati guitar. From 2018-2023 Francis and Manley taught music in Guangdong province, China at Nansha College Preparatory Academy. They currently reside in Knoxville, TN.
